Strike A Pose – Phoenix Boudoir Photographer

Posted on February 10, 2011

Did anyone catch the episode of Cougar Town when Travis got boudoir photos taken for his girl friend?  (You have to see it!)  I was a little disappointed that they showed a sleazy 1980’s style boudoir studio and photographer, but we all know it is not like that anymore. Right!!!!

Today’s Posing Tip: How to pull the camera’s pants down with your eyes. (quote from the show…)

There are all sorts of ways to get that certain look in your eyes.  The biggest challenge is doing it in front of the camera without looking cheesy and not laughing!!  Here is my tip.  (I should add here that I read this tip on another blog, and sadly, I cannot find the source.  So, please, if you wrote this and are reading it here, please comment and let me know so that I can give you proper credit!)

You can try this at home too, in front of your mirror.  Pair it with the previous tip on touching yourself for the ultimate effect :) It’s easy, close your eyes.  Take a very slow deep breath in.  Now open your eyes as you let it out looking straight into the camera.

This will give you a relaxed, seductively sexy look.  hotness.

From The Inspiration Files – Phoenix Boudoir Photographer

Posted on February 9, 2011

I love searching for inspiration.  (Especially when I have tons of notsofun work to be doing!) I have been compiling it lately, in one organized place.  Trust me, this is a BIG deal!  I have year’s of “inspiration” stuffed away in folders, notebooks, emails, etc.  Getting them all into one place as been quite the project.  But I am always finding new inspiration along the way.

I will continue to post inspiration on the blog, but if you are aching for more and just cannot wait, click here to check out my “inspiration files” on tumblr. (Hint:  click on archives to see everything at once.)

What did I tell ya.  I love me some laughing shots. Sometimes I catch myself in the mirror laughing, and I think, “omgoodness, that is not pretty.  I should NEVER laugh.”  And then I try to do it again, to see if I can make it better.  It get’s awkward.  I won’t lie.

The point…  I always wonder what my clients think of their laughing shots.  I see my them laugh and I think they look AMAZING.  They look natural and real.  Don’t be surprised if I ask you to simply laugh out loud.  Don’t be shy, you can do it.  And even though it may feel strange, in the end, you will giggle…. fo realz.  And that is the moment I am looking for.

I’m not a huge  on “posing”.  That’s not to say that I do not help you to pose.  I promise I do!  I just tend to see what I want in what you will do naturally.  I will often stop a client while she is getting up from a pose or fixing something on her panties.  I am just responding to your natural movement.  Finding those little sexy things only you do.  Things you might not notice.

This is Rene.  She is simply stunning.  Seriously, after our shoot, I felt sexier!  We shot this a couple of years ago, but I needed her to help me illustrate today’s posing tip.

Notice the theme in the images below?  She is touching herself.

Yes, I know, it sounds dirty.  But I promise, it makes your photos that much sexier and sensual if you just touch yourself.  USE your hands.  Be it a hand running through your hair, or brushing across your chest or chin, touch your skin somewhere.

Try dragging your finger or hand up your thigh (very sensually).  Go ahead, try it, no one will see.  (seriously, I just did it.)  Did you feel sexier?  I bet your facial expression changed too.  Now, I know that once you are behind the lens, it gets a little harder to run your hand up your thigh and feel comfortable feeling sexy about it, but if you can remember what that just felt like, it will help you during your shoot.  tremendously.  Try practicing in front of the mirror when you are alone.  And when we shoot, we can totally try it, and even laugh about it.  I love me some laughing shots. It’s not all about what your body looks like, it’s also about what you feel.  If you feel sensual and sexy, you images will BE sexy and sensual.

I have lots of clients who are nervous about not knowing how to pose and I PROMISE YOU, it will be easier than you think.  Most of the time, you will just lie there and relax!  As if you lie across the bed in your lingerie looking longingly out the window all the time.  I won’t lie, there will be things I ask you to do that will require a bit of a push here and a lift there, and you may be a little sore the next day, but it is all easy and natural.  And it is all worth it.

Here is how this shot played out:

Me:  ”I am going to have you just lay across the bed like this,” (imagine me sliding across the bed to show her which direction the lay, “and once you get into position, I will adjust you if we need it.”

She:  ”(insert nervous laugh here) okay, I’m gonna need a lot of help because I have no idea what I am doing.”

Me: “Holy crap this looks amazing.. don’t move a muscle.”
